Slipped in the journal is a photograph of Eishona and a large, shaggy kodo. She’s clad in her new caravan armor, smiling brightly.
We made it!
What an amazing trip! I saw so many different lands! The trip through the barrens was so hard - I was homesick, but so excited! We stopped for a rest in the Crossroads for a couple hours, to feed and water the kodos, and pick up a shipment of wires for something called ‘enjee-neering’.
Bhenta and I, along with some of the goblins, left to go for a walk and we happened upon a a dark kodo with a shaggy look. An unusual sight for the barrens! We followed it for a little, and I learned it was a bull kodo, full of strength and ferocity, and anger! It’s anger was due to an arrow lodged in it’s shoulder. Bhenta took it’s anger while we tried to corral it. It actually tossed me before we were able to get it under control!
We removed the arrow - How I wish I could work with the elements the way Miss Meelo can! I would have healed the beast! But it’s anger mellowed when it felt the arrowhead come loose. There was some bleeding, but nothing too serious.
The arrowhead looked like a quillboar design - either it was a hunt that went wrong, or some quillboar wanted to terrorize this beast. Whatever the case, I made a new friend. Drik was not happy, claiming it won’t be feeding of his stores, that it’s my responsibility to see it fed, housed and cared for on top of my own duties. The kodo lacks a name for now, but tolerates Bhenta well.
Speaking of duties.. Mine seem small. I brushed, fed and watered the kodos, much as I did for Harb in Mulgore. Then I stood watch a few hours while the goblins slept and ate. It was that way for a while, but it wasn’t all bad. Maybe a little dull. Drink said my real work will start in Everlook when we get there.
We only arrived there a few hours ago. Winterspring is astonishing - it is so cold, and so much snow! I saw animals I am unused to - bears, for example. I am told they are good eating, with great furs for clothing. I was informed I would be hunting for fresh meats to help supplement Drik’s crew, and do whatever tasks the folks of Everlook needed. Drink’s caravan makes trips from Winterspring to Orgrimmar, to Mulgore and back again, supplying those regions with furs and goods from Winterspring, and bringing back goods from the warmer climates.
One of the goblins whipped out a curious device he called a “camra”, and offered to take a ‘picture’ of the kodo and I. Astonishing device! he gave me the ‘picture’ to save. I’ll keep it in my journal!
I have a little hammock here in Everlook, and a small space to keep my belongings. Drik is paying for the initial cost for all of us to stay here, but said after a few days, it will be up to us to cover the costs. Laying in this hammock makes me think of Tahalem, and our evening together. I wish I hadn’t been forced to leave so suddenly, I would have enjoyed an evening like that again! But.. Drik explained we go back south in a week or two, so hopefully I can see him again soon.
The Inn-Keeper handed me such a weird thing while we were talking. It’s long, made of a strange substance.. it was.. firm yet yielding and.. to be honest.. reminds me of a flappy. She said, when I was telling her about Tahalem, “Oh honey - here. You’ll understand when you miss him enough! Or find someone out here to amuse you ‘till you see him again!” and she laughed. I stashed it with my bags, amidst her laughter.
She later asked if I would be up for hunting down some large birds, owls she calls them. Someone else came in, and asked if I can gather the horns of something called a “yeti”. So it looks like I already have work to do, which is nice.
I’m grateful for the new armor and clothes Drik gave me - though I think I will have to add extra, furs maybe? I also need to learn to walk on snow and ice. The kodos slipped a bit on the way here, but the road seemed maintained enough. The Inn-Keeper explained since I’m from the Barrens, I will feel the cold more than a more northerly tauren - she called them, I think, ‘Tonky’. She speaks so fast, I had a hard time catching the name.
Oh I miss my Bull, I think he’d help me stay warm here. This inn has a fireplace, and several braziers, piles of blankets and I am still cold. I must write to Tahalem in the morning. For now though, I will try to sleep!
